The Day is Actually Here

In just an hour I will leave for my first show.

I can’t believe that the day is actually here.

Last night my husband and I went to the site to set up the tent.  I’m really glad that he was able to go with me last night because there is no way I could’ve gotten the tent up on my own this morning.

Everything is packed and ready to go.

I will be back after the weekend to let everyone know how it went.

Thanks as always for reading.

Where did the time go?

Welcome once again.

In this post:  Time to panic, lol.

Where did the days go?  Seems like just yesterday I was freaking about getting the setup done to take pictures to send into the show coordinators and now the show is a mere 4 days away.

I’m very excited about this weekend even if my husband can’t be there with me on Saturday.  That’s a bit upsetting, but I did find out that we can set up Friday night so everything will be ready on Saturday.  This also means I don’t have to go in at 7am on Saturday.  I can arrive around 8:30 or so.

In other news.  I have a second show in July at a Celtic Festival in Belfast, Maine.  My mother and I will both be there.  She will be performing and then helping me with the booth in her free time that weekend.

I also wanted to extend an invitation to all my readers to comment to their hearts’ content.  As incentive, I’m offering anyone who comments free shipping on anything they purchase

Thanks as always for reading and soon I will have big information on the show.

One Week Until Show Time

In this post:  The final week before the show.

One week from today I will be sitting in my booth hopefully surrounded by customers.  The nerves are starting to kick in.  Questions are running through my mind:  What if nothing sells?  What if no one likes what I have?  What if it rains?  What if?  What if?  What if?  This is it.  This is the moment of truth for my business.  If I put my wares out there and no one buys anything, what do I do then?

In the meantime, I have a second show booked for July in Maine.  It’s a Celtic Festival that my mother will be singing at as well.  She got me the booth and I’m pretty excited.  It’s caused me to create my sister site Nanuk’s Cottage Celtic Jewelry so that I can display my Celtic inspired pieces in one place.

I think I’m Ready

Welcome back once again…

In this post:  Today’s Craft Show

This afternoon Dan and I went to a local craft show run by the same people running the one at the end of this month.  I wanted to see what I needed to do to be ready.  Come to find out, I think I’m set.  There are a few things here and there that need to be done, but overall I think I’ll be fine.  Things I still need:  a mirror, a sign, weights for the poles, somewhere to sit, and a cash box.  Once I have that, I’m good to go.

I feel pretty good.  I think my set up will be a nice addition to the ones already in the show.  Because of this, Dan also wants me to apply to another one in Naples in May.  It’s a big one, so I need to get moving on that one since I already missed the application date and will have to pay the late application fee anyway.

Preparing

In this post:  Getting Ready for the Show

My first show is a mere 15 days away.  I feel like getting ready has completely consumed everything I do.  I am constantly wondering if I have enough to keep my booth stocked for two days; if items are priced accurately; if I should change prices and share more or less; if people are actually going to buy my items; and mostly, if I’m ready overall for this.

My husband says I am.  He looks at everything I’ve done and says he knows that I’m ready.  As the show gets closer, I’m listening to him more and more.  I wasn’t this nervous two weeks out from our wedding this past November.

This week I have worked on making more pieces.  I’m averaging about three for each day I’ve worked on things.  I’ve also worked on getting the price cards written out and putting together the basket of earrings that will go on a table that I don’t even have yet.

I have also started to think about the next show I will do after this one.  I need to start looking into the next show and then the one after that if this is going to work.  My husband spends time looking up shows and emailing them to me.  I’m amazed at how many links he sends me on a regular basis.

Looking back, I don’t know if I really have much to post today, but wanted to write anyway.  I think a new jewelry picture is in order.

This is a set I made on Monday. It features Amber Quartz and Citrine with Silver Celtic diamonds and a large Dragonfly pendant.  There are also matching earrings.

It’s a Set Up

Welcome once again…

In this post:  Setting up for the Show

In my last post I mentioned the initial steps I was taking to get ready for the upcoming craft show.  Tonight I’m pleased to say that things are moving right along.  Over the weekend I managed to finish the two tablecloths (still need one more small one) and work out the way I plan to set up everything at a show.  On Sunday, we set up the tent

so that we could do a run through.  What an odd task that was considering that neither of us had ever put up a tent and it was super windy out.  Not the best day for a tent test drive.  Once the tent was up, I set everything out and ran inside to get all pretty for pictures.  While I was inside, a huge gust of wind came along and took the tent a good foot in the air.  My husband grabbed it and held it down until I got back outside.

We were able to get a lot of good pictures so that I could send my show application off today.  Looks like things are coming along.

Now for some pretty jewelry pictures 🙂

New Ventures

Happy Saturday Everyone 🙂

In this post:  Getting ready for my first public show.

Earlier in the week my husband surprised me with all sorts of information on local craft shows.  One show is coming up on March 31, but I want to do it to get the experience.  Nanuk’s Igloo has been running for a year based mostly on word of mouth so that I can get out there.  Now I’m ready to get myself out to the general public and shows are the best ways to do that.  Seems like they cause their own bit of panic though.  I was suddenly faced with a part of my business I never looked into before:  Craft Show Setups.

This week has been spent trying to find out what I need for a show and how to go about it.  Found out I need a tent and tables.  My husband surprised me on Thursday with a 10×10 canopy tent and two folding tables to get me started.  That meant I needed to take that next step:  making table covers.  A trip to the fabric store was in order.  Mind you, I love making jewelry, but sewing if not a strength.  This was a very daunting process.  In the end though, this is what I have…

Now I need to determine the way I will set my items on the table, so with that in mind…

In the next post: Displays.
